Vortex is well-known for producing high-quality optics, but when it came to choosing between the Vortex Crossfire, Sig Romeo 5, and Holosan, the writer decided to go with the Crossfire. Despite being made by the same company, the Sig Romeo 5 or Holosan worked better for the writer. The writer tested all three sights on a real M4 and found that the Crossfire seemed too high, almost like a skyscraper was sitting on the rifle. The writer doesn't care about the lower 1/3 co-witness anymore after testing the sights and would prefer an absolute co-witness. The height of the mount was the main issue with the Crossfire, as the writer found it to be either too high or too low. The writer sent the sight back and plans to go with a reasonable height off the rail. The Crossfire's mount was so high that it defeated the purpose of having a carbine and the writer wishes there was a medium mount option included. The lower 1/3 co-witness was considered to be ridiculous and the writer believes that a compact red dot is what is needed. In conclusion, the writer's main issue with the Vortex Crossfire was with the mount and not the optic itself. If the writer wanted a skyscraper on their M4, it would be fine, but the writer needs a compact red dot, hence the return.

Use on AR for pigs and yotes in the woods. Quick to acquire and holds zero. Dot is a little large for longer range on yote-sized critters.

It was mounted on the Freedom Ordnance FX-9 top rail. A few rounds to dial in, and bingo, hits what you point the dot at. Rotating the dial is a little tight, it only rotates up to the end, then you have to go all the way back to 0 to shut it off. No shake on/off feature is not a deal-breaker.

Works excellent easy to install! Has two mounts a low one for shotguns or rifle and a higher for an AR-style rifle!

I was mounted on an SBR in 5.56. Great optic at this price. Dime size groups when I zeroed at 25m. I'm pretty rough on gear and shoot with this piece of kit a lot! I have been banged around in training a bunch. Holds zero very well. Super accurate, no "glare" in the optic. Clear visibility and dot visible even in sunlight at higher settings. Ordered a second one for me—300 Blackout build. Highly recommend.

Assuming the new numbers for battery life are accurate, The vortex crossfire should be a great little red dot. And Vortex is offering it at the same price as the original. As they say, “You can’t beat that with a big stick.”

The vortex crossfire red dot is of great value for a dependable. Love the fact you can mount it, install the battery, and sight it in within minutes. I have been using it for a few months and still on the original battery, visible even on bright sunlit days. Easy to use and bright and clear, my only chance would be to have to flip up sights versus the removable rubber cover, but not an issue for me at this price.

Most would laugh at this, but I have this vortex crossfire red dot sight mounted on an lwrc repr 16". I have it on there for the short term until I get I better optic like an Aimpoint comp m5. After doing some running and gunning with this optic, I'm impressed. Over 500 rounds of recoil from 7.62, and this optic is holding up fine. I'm considering buying a few more of these optics for cheaper guns.
