affordable and reliable rifle scope
The Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 is an affordable and reliable rifle scope that delivers excellent performance. Despite its low price, it has exceeded the expectations of its owner in terms of clarity and field of view. It has also proven to be durable, surviving the rough conditions of daily use on a ranch. So impressed with its performance, the owner has even ordered a second one as a spare. The Vortex Diamondback has already proven itself in the field, successfully hunting coyotes and hogs. Overall, it's a great value for the price and a reliable choice for any hunter or shooter.
Rivals Leupold VX III in Brightness and Clarity
The Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 is an excellent rifle scope that outperforms its competition in many ways. Compared to the Nikon Pro Staff 4-12x40, the Vortex Diamondback has a larger field of view, is shorter and lighter, and has better clarity and brightness. It even holds its own against higher-end Leupold scopes, with similar levels of clarity and brightness. The fast-focus eyepiece is easy to use and allows for precise focus on both the crosshairs and the target. The only downsides to the Vortex Diamondback are the small "sweet spot" at the highest magnification and a tendency to struggle with a glare at 12x power. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Vortex Diamondback provides great value for its price, with impressive optics and a durable build. It's an excellent choice for any hunter or shooter looking for a high-quality scope at a reasonable price.

I put this scope on my Mossberg patriot, and I love it. The clicks of the turrets are nice and crisp, the feel of the turret protectors are solid and have a nice feel to them, and it handles the recoil from those 180 gr rounds. As a bonus, it’s backed by a lifetime warranty so there’s that too, and I honestly haven’t heard a bad thing about vortex and their customer service—great product for a great price .
So Far I'm Impressed
I put this scope on a rifle I wanted to use as a ranch rifle - basically the firearm I put in the truck when I'm doing hunting-related maintenance on the land I hunt on. I am genuinely impressed with its clarity and how easily it lines up. The workmanship and quality are much better than I expected at this price point. Sighting it in was a breeze. After two outings at the range, I bought a second one and put it on a 22LR rifle I had that was in need of a new optic.
Great value, quality glass
I was running tight on funds, so I decided to try this Vortex Diamondback on my new Savage Model 11 Lightweight Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor. I couldn't ask for a better fit for the rifle for the money. Clear glass and is holding less than 1 MOA at 200 yards. I use the LRBC computer on the Vortex website, which calculates the ranges for the reticle based on the load. The scope is light, bright, and has good turret adjustment. This is my fourth Vortex optic, and I have not been disappointed. This cope compares favorably with my Leupolds. For the money, it can't be beaten.
Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 bdc review
I put this scope on my AR15. The best part about the scope is that the picture quality stands higher than the other optics at this price range. (Redfield, Burris, Nikon primarily were the ones I was also looking at.) The picture is the clearest and brightest of the bunch. It also has a good field of view, with very little "fisheye" effect on the outside edges of the picture. As for the construction, it is a relatively heavy scope and appears well built. I can't speak to the overall durability as i've not had it long enough, but at the moment, it is holding up well. That being said, there are things about this scope that could make it a poor option for some people. The eye relief is shorter than most of the competing options out there. This could cause problems for someone with a rifle with heavy recoil. Eye placement is important on this scope if one is to get the best out of it, and it is a bit pickier than some scopes about said eye placement. Bottom line, as long as you can get the scope positioned in a good position for your eyes, the optical quality of this scope makes this an excellent buy.
The glass is bright and clear
The glass is bright and clear(very clear), the reticle is practical, but when you take off the caps to adjust, you get the feel of something quite different than scopes in this price range. The adjustments feel sharp and precise. From optics to aesthetics, this scope truly stands out against its price point competitors. I have this scope mounted on my 30-06 and plan to put another on my CZ 17HMR. I wouldn't fault a guy for spending more money to buy something like a Leupold or Redfield to support American workers, but if you want the best bang for your buck than it is hard to beat this scope.
A great Scope
This is the first Vortex scope that I have bought, being a Leupold devotee, but it will not be the last. I have vortex binos and like them very much. This scope is a compact size but large in performance: crisp reticle and a very useful magnification range for hunting and up to medium long-range steel ringing. For the price, it is world-class.
Mounted on my Remi-700
Mounted on my Remi-700 in .308, the BDC works well enough for hunting/sniping applications. Optics are clear and bright. Crosshairs and BDC are large enough to see while not blocking out that target. At this price, for 90% of civilian hunting and shooting applications, this is a great scope. Vortex warranty, cust. serv. Packaging leads me to believe this company will grow very fast, and the popularity of their name will continue to grow as well.
Vortex Again
I put this on my hunting rifle, Ruger M77 7mm Mag (replacing the Nikon Monarch that has been nothing but trouble). So far is holding, if it ever doesn't Vortex will make it right. Vortex is my go to scope now, I have 5 Vipers, 2 Diamondbacks and 1 Crossfire.
My Vortex Diamondback 4 12x40 Review
I'm 76 years young & have been hunting since I was 10 or 12. I've had all kinds of scopes during that time. I ordered this to try since I had a 6x Vortex for my .22. Out of the box on my old 284 win. I bore sighted it on a golf ball I have on tree @ 35 yds. The crosshairs landed exactly where my old scope was, GEEEZE, never had that to happen. I went down to the creek & shot the thing @ 35 yds. & it was only a 1/4" low &1/4" r. I couldn't believe it, so I shot two more times, the same hole. I made one adjustment, then Went to 200 yds. And shot a 1.25" group using all the power settings 3-9 they all tracked to the same POI. I never had a scope to do that in the 200 to 300 $ range.
Was very pleased with the performance of this scope.
Was very pleased with the performance of this scope. It holds zero very well with a variety of calibers. I tried this scope on a Ruger Mark II 338 and a Browning BLR 300 WSM, no problems at all. I plan on buying another one for my new Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan. I would recommend this scope for anyone looking for quality at an affordable price.
