AR 15 Handguards

About our AR 15 handguards

Like many gun parts, the AR15 Handguard is as personal a choice as stocks, sights or pistol grips and in direct proportion with owner’s wants and needs. While the aftermarket offer is overwhelmed with the plethora of them ranging from the battle-proven to the true featherweight AR-15 handguards even the names can be confusing as the rifle's forend is usually called the handguard, forearm or foregrip. Anyway, the AR-15 handguards are one part that's easy to change, and it is also one of the most-changed parts on the rifle, and for most of the novices adding an aftermarket, the forearm is the first step in personalizing their AR-15 rifle. While the primary role of a AR Handguard is to protect shooters support hand from the heat of the barrel while firing, the AR15`s sleek and stylish appearance, the AR15 standard plastic handguards are bulky and clumsy making the rest of the AR look interrupted and incomplete.

There are hundreds of different versions which can improve rifle's comfort, versatility, or even enhance its accuracy potential. As for the classification, the AR-15 Handguard can be determined by the length of the piston or operation rod systems on an AR15 rifle, so we have three standard AR handguard lengths which match to gas systems with the same names: rifle, mid-length, and carbine gas systems. Also, there is the newest and shortest pistol gas system usually found on AR-15 style pistols. Moreover, the AR15 forends could be classified by its way of installation on a classic drop in (non-free-float design) and free-floating handguards which in turn allows further customization by defining the functionality and appearance of your rifle. Furthermore, both categories are subdivided on the rail, and the non-railed handguards and finally, as the cherry on the cake, all of these types could be made either of all metal construction, or carbon fiber reinforced polymers.

If we choose a railed handguard that means the rifle will utilize some combinations of Picatinny rail, (known as a MIL-STD-1913 rail), Keymod or M-LOK mounting rails. That forends usually have from one to four attachment points at three, six, nine and twelve o’clock positions and the most common type are the quad-rails, featuring the four rails that generally run the length of the handguard, enabling mounting of all different kinds of AR 15 accessories such as lights, Harris bipods or vertical grips.

The other principal category consists of free-floating handguards intended to provide better precision and can be seen on match-grade rifles that value accuracy above all else. The free-floating handguard is mounted directly to the upper receiver without making any contacts with a barrel, allowing it to "float" and transfers better harmonics, resulting in slightly better accuracy. Similar to the previous category, there are free floating railed AR handguards as the most popular type of free-floating forehands. These are followed by the non-railed AR15 handguards or better known as "free float tubes" while the free float rails are available in many different lengths and configurations the most popular is standard quad rail AR15 handguard - named for its 4-Picatinny rails. Aside from its versatility, free float rails tend to be somewhat cumbersome, and since they require significant machine work, they are the most expensive of the AR 15 handguard types. Unlike universal popularity of free float rails, the non-railed AR 15 handguards belong to the somewhat specialized niche of rifles preferred by many competition shooters because free float tubes do not affect barrel harmonics and accuracy does not suffer.

Excellent AR Handguard

The MAGPUL MOE M-LOK is an excellent AR handguard to dress up your favorite weapon. It has a wonderful feel and accessories are easy add to it. It Handsome. Protects you hand from heat and burns. Once you get use to installing it. It's a little tricky at first but pretty plain and simple after that. I highly recommend the MAGPUL M-LOK and all MAGPUL accessories.

Perfect upgrade on my old school Bushmaster AR!

I looked for an upgrade on my old AR fore grip that I could then add on AR accessories like a bipod, lights etc. This magpul moe handguard fills the bill perfectly and fits around the original tall front sight. It installs quickly and so does any accessories you would like or need.

Great solution for a non free floathandguard

Perfect fit on my M&P 15 Sport II ORC. Heat shields are great as the factory part does not have them. Mloc gave me a place to mount a QD sling swivel, and a rail section for a light. I like the shape better than the factory round hand guard, as it is not as wide. There is no movement or rattle when installed.

Magpul does it again

Love this magpul moe sl handguard. It was an upgrade on the stock one my M&P 15 came with in every way. The fit is tight and has absolutely no wiggle. The M-Lok system is efficient and there are plenty of slots on this item. The heat shield works wonders and the shape of the guard allows for an amazing grip on every shot. On top of all that it looks great and sleek. Heads up, this can be installed by only one person but its easier with two. Also, you will have to remove the sling mount if you have one. That being said, I highly recommend this to everyone!

AR15 MOE-SL handguard

The magpul sl handguard arrived today and I had it installed in about 15 minutes. I strongly recommend that you have a Delta ring wrench to install it, because it is a tight fit. It is solid, no vibration at all, and feels much better than the stock handguard. It has a heat shield and good ventilation. The extended guard keeps your hand away from the hot sight/gas block. I'm really pleased with it.

AR Pistol Build

Excellent ar15 handguard! I used this on my first AR pistol build. I've assembled several rifles over the years, but this was the first pistol. So onto the review: Pros- Well made. A rock-solid platform to work with. The modular system allows you to place gear where you need it without the added weight of the unused rails. Cons- On my 10.5" AR pistol, this forearm became extremely hot to the touch after a few quick-fired 30rd magazines. The ambient temp was around 90*, so it was hot out anyway, but it was more than you wanted to put your bare hand on. This may be a common problem with all AR pistols as this is the first one that I've ever built/fired, of this I'm not sure. Gloves or an AFG easily solve this issue. I've opted for the AFG route as I usually carry gloves but have been known to forget them from time to time. Anyway, I hope this helps!

Great handguard

Can't beat the build quality for the price. The Samson Evolution ar 15 handguard Farily lightweight, durable, and looks great. The matte black gives it a rugged look, but it can pick up scratches. Not for a safe queen rifle, but someone who actually uses it. My only complaint is that the modular rail pieces are tight fits on most foregrips and AFG's. Had to sand down the inside of the Magpul AFG to fit on the short section.
