Customer Ratings & Reviews
EOTech 512 sight
I purchased this EOTech 512 sight based on my experiences using an EOTech 550 that I had purchased from a fellow soldier. The only difference between the 550 and 512 is that the 550 has a night vision setting. If you have no intention of shooting with night vision goggles, save $100 and get the 510. The EOTech I am using now in Afghanistan is mounted on my M16A2 using the EOTech Cantilever mount. I am still on the same set of AA batteries, and when they do finally run down, AA's are natural to come by in Afghanistan. I turn the sight on before I cross the wire and forget about it. The only time I mess with it is to change the brightness of the reticle. The reticle is the best thing about the EOTech. Having a circle allows you to frame a target quickly without having to focus on the dot. The next best thing is that you can change your cheek to stock weld and still be assured that you will hit your target consistently. This sight is tough. I have ridden in all sorts of US, Canadian, and Afghan vehicles where it is a rough ride, and my M16A2 gets knocked around a bit. The EOTech has never lost its zero. Short of having bullets that correct themselves in flight to hit the target, the EOTech is the best red dot out there.
EOTech 512 holographic sight
I just used this on my ar-15, and it is the most significant sight I have ever used. I was sighted in within the first mag. I can hold a tight 2in group @ 50 yards standing.
EOTech 512 a65 is Awesome
The EOTech 512 Awesome. Mounted on a Rock River flattop, CAR M4 got 1/8 group at 25 yards (one hole) with no effort. Under 1/2 inch at fifty and just over one at 100 yards! Amazing. Very cool sight. Made very well. The dot is tiny if the brightness is kept low. Gets very bright, easily seen with the sun over the shoulder. Very clear optics. The top of the front sight is just below the middle of the window. I thought I might be bothered by this, but the way the sight works, you will focus on the target, so the front sight disappears, cool. I will get the flip-up next.
I'd buy this again
I like to wait to get a feel for a commodity before I write a review. I've had this view for a few decades now and have put it in its footsteps. I initially purchased this sight when I chose to do a nighttime competition shoot, for many years I was a strong advocate of iron sights. The thinking is that they don't need batteries, and they are made from metal. Well, this sight is easy on cells and has a metallic housing. As far as the battery life goes, I initially put two lithium-ion batteries inside and have never altered them. The sight is simple to adjust. It appears to hold it is zero, I 've never had to change it. The dot is the smallest on the market. Shooting long range, I detect the point is on a 3rd of the width of the front sight post, which is small. The ring about the dot isn't needed for a longer range shooting and is still sort of a distraction, but also for close range shooting, it is perfect. In case the circle is on the target that is good. The sight goes dim, which is practical for longer range shooting in the dark and becomes bright enough for use in the sunshine. Two thumbs up for being adjustable. The two different buttons both turn it on. Its auto shutoff feature is dependent on which button you flip it on with, one being 4 hours and the other being 8 hours, not important to me, but might be to someone. The glass is nice, looking at it from the front, it does not give out any light, not a problem for me, but might be for somebody hunting or whatever. The rain influences it in this rain falls will get on the glass which makes it's hard to see through, particularly at nighttime. However, the great news is it's never really fogged on me. That is a nice sight, only be sure you are hip to the ring around the point as it does not go away. I'd buy this again.
