Mesa Tactical Side Saddle SureShell Polymer Carrier for Remington 870, 1100, 11-87 (6-Shell, 12-GA)

This SureShell Polymer Carrier system, available in a six shell configuration, features shell holders injection molded from glass filled polymer, secured to the receiver by a lightweight aluminum back plate with brass threaded inserts. The new SureShell Polymer Carrier also includes an innovative dual rubber friction system that reliably holds shotshells in place. Models are available with and without integral Picatinny rails for mounting optics.
The principle difference between one model of SureShell and another, aside from capacity, is the light-weight aluminum backing plate, which is designed to mount the carrier assembly on a particular model of shotgun. Side-mount Mesa Tactical SureShell shotshell carriers for Mossberg , Remington and Benelli M1 shotguns use the trigger group pin holes to secure the assemblies to the weapon; the Benelli M2 Tactical, Benelli M4/M1014, Benelli SuperNova Tactical and some Mossberg 500/590 versions take advantage of the factory-tapped rail mounting holes in the tops of these shotguns and include integrated Pictanny optics mounting rails; another version with an integrated rail is the saddle-mount design for Remington.

Forend Compatibility
Factory shotgun forends, except “tactical” forends, often feature significant receiver overlap when the bolt is pulled back. These forends will need to be cut down or replaced with aftermarket “tactical” forends to be used with some SureShell shotshell carriers. Before you install a SureShell shotshell carrier, measure your forend’s receiver overlap and compare it to the furthest forward point of the shotshell carrier. Then cut any potential overlap or interference off the end of theforend with a miter saw or a rotary arm saw for a perfect fit.
Remington 870/1100/11-87
The Sureshell receiver mounting system for Remington 870, 1100 and 11-87 shotguns uses a combination of steel fasteners threaded into a steel pin (at the rear) and paired Chicago screws (up front) for more secure attachment to the shotgun without the risk of pinching the receiver. The mounting plate even features a window over the shotgun serial number location, to make it easier for armorers to inventory their weapons.
Note, SureShell polymer shotshell carriers cannot be installed on right side of Remington semi-auto shotguns. To use the six-shot SureShell carrier mounted on the left side of the Remington 870 shotgun, you must use a tactical forend that does not overlap the receiver, or a factory forend that is cut down appropriately.

Sad to say that the carrier is not as flush as I would like. At the securring points it is exact. However, at the front of the carrier there is about a 1/16"- 1/8" opening. It leaves me to believe that this particular carrier is warped. I am wondwering if I should contact or try to straighten the base plate. Not being a gunsmith, I need to consider the out come. Other than that, I am very pleased with my purchase.

I installed this on my Remington 870 Tac 14 w/ arm brace. Installation was easy. The shell carrier retains the shells nice and snug, no problem holding them in place brass down. This is my second Mesa polymer shell carrier. I have one for my Benelli M2 Tactical as well. Both work perfectly. I recommend this quality piece. Dont go with the cheep stuff Meda make the best Remington 870 accessories.

I would give this 5 stars except for install instructions. Install instructions speak of forward trigger pin on a Remington 870 using clips internally to hold the pin in place and they must be removed before installing the replacement pins. Well it just happens this is also true on many 1100s also. Basically you need to pull the trigger assembly, remove the clips and then put ot back together and proceed. The instructions should mention that some 1100s and most like some 1187s in addition to the 870 require the clips to be removed. Also no mention that you really should use some blue on the screws of the replacement trigger pins. Also, this covers the serial number on my Remington 1100. Not to happy about that but it is really not the fault of Mesa Tactical but they might mention it in the product description.

Looks great on gun, but the shells did not hold firm enough for my preference. This was even using the secondary piece of nylon. I tried epoxying in some felt to opposite side of the holder holes. But was really unhappy with within a day, and put it in the trash. This product needs some serious re-engineering. I believe the Tacstar holds better, but looks really cheap. Just saying.

This Mesa Tactical side saddle is terrific. A lot of people grumbled about how tight it holds shells. The directions tell you to make a twist-and-pull motion to remove the shells in one smooth motion. It works well. If I ever do have difficulty getting the shells out, I push the shell with my thumb or index finger and then it is surprisingly simple to pull the shell out the rest of the way. It does hold shells securely, so you’ll never fret about shells dropping. If you have a Remington 870 I highly suggest getting this side saddle!

The Mesa Tactical SureShell Polymer Carrier is a high-quality accessory to any tactical shotgun. It is very well made, fits flawlessly and holds shells with just the right amount of tension.
