These are the best things since sliced bread. I have pair of custom-molded plugs, cost over four times the price, and don't compare to these plugs! They can be a little tricky to get in, but once so, I can't hear a thing. I have to protect what little hearing I still have! I think i must have 8-10 pairs, a set in each car, every shooting bag, every gun case, etc. NEVER leave home without a set! I often give a set to new shooters. I use them for skeet / trap, at the rifle range , i use them under the earmuffs. muzzle breaks should be outlawed, but that's another subject

I've had these for just over a year now, and they still work just as well as the day I opened them. It seems to help if you rinse them off thoroughly in hot water after every couple of uses. I use them while shooting rimfire pistols up to centerfire pistols and rifles. They can be a bit fiddly to get sealed incorrectly at first, but once in properly they are comparable to regular muffs but much less obtrusive. This brings me to my aforementioned tip for getting them seated and sealed the first try every time. You need to start by holding the molded black flange between the thumb and index or middle finger. The important detail is to NOT try to put them straight into your ear in the same orientation they end up in! You need to rotate the top approximately 90°-120° toward the front of your head. This will create ergonomic alignment when you then insert the actual plug cylinder into your ear canal. Once you feel the pressure of the seal, just rotate them back to slightly past center and then forward just enough to have the black flange sit inside the larger cavity of your ear.

The surefire ep5 was a lifesaver for me when I started working the night shift. I couldn't be mad at the world for enjoying their sunny day while I had to sleep to rest for my next graveyard shift. These did an excellent job of reducing all the loud noises but still allowing me to be able to hear my alarm clock without any issues. Now that I work in the day time, it has helped when my neighbors decide to be extra loud.

These little honeys are a must for training up folks with firearms. Typically someone new to firearms have three things making them nervous, the noise of the weapon, target acquisition, and control of the firearm. These Surefire ep5 sonic defenders max plugs remove one of those obstacles famously. They are not comfortable enough to sleep in, but they are great for a day of shooting and yard work. I wore them at a Here Come The Mummies concert and enjoyed the front row a lot more since my ears weren't ringing when I got out of there. They store a lot easier than headphones and are easily transported. I keep a pair in the car, house, and gun bag, so I am never without protection.

Bought the surefire ep5 for my 10 yr old. Fit her perfectly. She still wears noise canceling headphones over the top of them, but that’s because I’m overly cautious. She can’t hear a thing when she has these on either the headphones.

Great concept. I leave the surefire ep5 sonic defenders in my ears all the time on hunts, but don't press them in full so I can hear the quietest sounds. Then if I'm ready for a shot, I just push them in further. They're a bit fiddly to put on at the beginning of the day, but it's worth it as they are so comfortable you'll forget you're wearing them. They also muffle gunshots very well, though I'd still double up on protection with muffs on top of these if you are shooting a lot of shots. After using these, I can't imagine going without hearing protection on hunts, or lugging around bulky earmuff style protectors, or paying hundreds for electronic amplifying protectors.

I work security and work a lot of overtime in vegas on the strip, and this is a must-have for the clubs I work at. Highly,highly recommend the surefire ep5 for everyone. It keeps you enjoying the music but stops you from having a ringing and future damage to your hearing. Buy this asap. Excellent product!

Super comfy, easy to install and remove, comes with lanyard you can attach, really work well for rifle and pistol. Packaging says will last 6 months or until the rubber hardens. Ordering a pair for the wife after she tried them. SOOO much better than foam plugs hands down!!

I was very skeptical about these but added them to order on impulse, and I'm glad I did. You have to realize, as others have noted, that they are light-weight, fit in the ear, and can't compete with the best over-the-ear "cans." That being said, I use them all the time now and love them. They are comfortable, I can hear the typical conversation with them, and they significantly reduce muzzle pressure. Note: I've tried similar "two flanges" buds that do NOT work nearly as well, basically about like putting a wad of cotton or sticking your fingers in your ear. Don't risk you hearing with them! But these "three flanges" models work well. Fit is everything, so don't be afraid to try different sizes. Medium seems to fit me well. They are not adequate for magnum rifles, and a powerful handgun will leave your ears ringing, but for my 9mm and similar guns, even in the competition, they are fantastic. They are highly recommended. Always respect their limitations. Your hearing depends on it.

I once slept quite soundly with these Surefire EP5 in my ears even as someone in the same room snored at the volume, seemingly, of an airplane. It's kind of hard getting them inside the ears correctly, but once you do, you will find peace and quiet. I extremely suggest these. Just be cautious; putting things into and pulling things out of the ears can damage the ear canals, so be sensitive with them. Don't be ripping these out of your ears abruptly.
