    Nightforce SHV 4-14x56 Thoughts

    5 out of 5

I have extensive experience with the Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1 scope, having owned three and used them on different rifles, calibers, and types for both target shooting and hunting across the US. Throughout my experiences, the scope has consistently performed well, remained clear, and held up against rough handling and transportation. The scope has handled recoil well, from .308 to 300 Win Mag, 7MM, and 6.5 Creedmoor rifles, and maintained its accuracy even after being dropped. Its zero stop setup is straightforward and it has not had any tracking issues. While the scope is long, it is not excessively heavy and features high-quality glass and a clean reticle ideal for hunting. The glass quality is impressive, although not quite as good as the BEAST or ATACR, but it is a much more affordable option. My only criticisms of the scope are the limited 4-14 zoom range and the length, which may not be suitable for extended shooting. Additionally, there are only two reticle choices available. In conclusion, I plan to upgrade my main hunting rifles to the new NX8, which offers a great balance between this scope and the ATACR line, as I have described in my comparison review.

high-quality optic with clear glass and precise

I had the opportunity to test Nightforce Optics' latest "budget" rifle scope, the Nightforce SHV 4-14X56. Over the course of three months, I mounted it on various rifles and was impressed with its clarity and accuracy. The 56mm objective lens, which is part of the scope's .25 MOA system, is larger than most people need, but it provides exceptional performance. Initially, I tried to mount the scope on a Ruger M77 Hawkeye, but I couldn't find tall enough scope rings. So, I ordered taller rings for a weaver style rail and eventually mounted the scope on an Olympic Arms 5.56/.308 rifle. The illuminated MOAR reticle makes it easy to find ranges on the fly. The only downside to this scope is its size, which is massive with a 56mm objective lens and a length of almost 15 inches. It may be overkill for most hunters, but if you need to reach out to a target in low light at 500 yards or more, this is the perfect scope for you. This budget line of scopes is still expensive, costing between $1,000 to $1,100, depending on the reticle. However, Nightforce Optics is known for their quality and few rifle scope makers can match their standards. The Nightforce SHV line of scopes offers a more affordable option for shooters who want access to a high-quality optic with clear glass and precise .25 MOA adjustments. We highly recommend this scope for any shooting needs if you can afford it.

    Nightforce Quality!

"Excellent optics! I own multiple Nightforce scopes and they never disappoint. The adjustments are precise and secure, the glass is clear, settings are reliable, and the construction is durable and built to last. These scopes are more expensive than others, but quality comes at a cost. If you're solely focused on price, these might not be for you, but if you want a top-quality, feature-packed, and well-constructed optic, look no further."

    Coyote mania!!!

A Nightforce SHV is a reliable choice. I've successfully hunted coyotes from over 300 yards using a .223. The only downside is the warranty department's online system, which I've tried to use without success. I now have to send in a copy of my receipt to register it. Despite this, the product itself is fantastic.

    Best scope for the money

The Nightforce SHV 4-14x56 offers exceptional clarity, as expected. The side focus operates smoothly and the yardage markings match the actual focus. The click adjustments are precise. The 1-MOA reticle graduations up to 30-MOA without dialing make it ideal for hunting and for use in PRS matches where limited time is available to engage each target. Impressed with the performance, the author purchased a second one the day after sighting in the first and plans to buy three more, resulting in the sale of some of their other, less impressive optics.

    Excellent Scope at Reasonable Price

    Location:

Initially, there was doubt about whether the Night Force scope, being priced lower, would meet the high standards of the Night Force brand. The result is a resounding "yes". The construction quality is outstanding and the scope performs as promised. This scope is marketed for potential varmint hunting, and its ability to adjust parallax down to 25 yards, which was confirmed by the author, is a valuable feature that supports this claim.

    nightforce shv 4-14x56 review

The Nightforce SHV-4-14x56 riflescope is a top-notch option for hunters. This scope is designed for heavy-duty use and has nearly maxed out the full potential for an optical scope in its class. It is 14.8 inches long, weighs 28.5 ounces (illuminated reticle version), and retails for around $1,000. The objective lens is 56mm and the magnification range is from 4x to 14x. The scope has a parallax adjustment, a 30mm tube diameter, and fine click adjustment dials for windage and elevation. The illuminated reticle version has a red "+" in the center of the crosshairs and 11 steps of intensity. The scope was mounted on a Browning A-Bolt heavy hunting rifle and performed well at the range. I recommends this scope for hunters as it is precision in every way and worth the investment.

    Believe The Hype

This scope has lived up to the Nightforce hype. The glass is the best I have seen, the MOAR reticle makes target acquisition quick, illumination and parallax knobs are easy to use. It gathers light like no other. You can shoot well past legal sunset. Be advised with a large objective scope like this you might have to build up your cheek pad to get a solid cheek weld and natural point of aim looking through the scope. It's really expensive, and it's really that good.

    Nightforce SHV

This is the 3rd Nightforce scope I have purchased. I have been very pleased with my other two scopes with one exception. The 2nd scope I bought has a problem with the lighted reticle. It won't adjust--either full bright or off--. I haven't sent it back to Nightforce yet as hunting season has just ended for me, and I used the scope on my favorite rifle. The SHV scope has external reticle light adjustment, which is a large plus at dusk or dawn. I haven't mounted it yet but will do so soon. Right now I'm completely satisfied with the quality of Nightforce scopes-- how they handle the scope with a problem will determine if I buy anymore scopes from them. More to follow on this review after the fix is done.

    Night and day difference

I bought a Savage 30-06 that came with a Nikon scope. What a disaster. My shot groupings were variable, with some shots being 5-6 inches standard deviation. I went hunting and missed two hogs. When I returned home, I found out the rifle was shooing 7" below center. I purchased the Nightforce SHV 4-14×56 scope, and I am now able to constantly achieve a .9 " standard deviation at 100 yards with the scope. I go hunting again in a couple of weeks. I am excited.

At least comparable to the NXS line....huge field of crystal clear view....adjustments are precise and repeatable. The IHR reticle is the best thing since NF discontiuned the NP1.

    Great scope

After owning a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 with the NPR1 reticle, I have no idea why they couldn't have come out with the SHV model first!! The SHV is better than the NXS in many ways. The glass on both scopes is excellent, no detectable difference there. The SHV is superior because it has a rheostat to adjust the illumination as standard equipment, the NXS does not. The moar reticle is superior to the old npr1 reticle in that it has 1 moa hash marks on the horizontal portion of the crosshair as well as the vertical. You can easily use the moar reticle for accurate holdover without having to dial in elevation. The elevation and wind knobs are covered, which can be an advantage in that they are protected from undesired adjustment. The only way I can see this scope being improved would be to have larger, more easily readable marks on the turret for adjustment purposes. Otherwise, this is a more feature-laden scope than the NXS for less money. I know, I own both.
