Trijicon RMR HD Red Dot Sight - 55 MOA Adjustable LED Reticle

This item is on PRE ORDER, We expect to ship sometime in the 4th quarter 2023

Trijicon Trijicon RMR HD Red Dot Sight represents the next level in red dot pistol optics, specifically engineered to meet the progressive requirements of Law Enforcement and Military personnel. This innovative optic is an advancement of the Trijicon RMR Adjustable LED model, maintaining the same patented housing shape crafted from forged aluminum, a powerful electronic system, and high-quality lenses.

The Trijicon RMR HD Red Dot Sight enhances its predecessor's features by incorporating a durable, top-loading battery, a more extensive window, and a forward-facing light sensor that's truly a game-changer. With multiple reticle options and industry-leading illumination flexibility, it's evident that the Trijicon RMR HD has been designed and constructed for serious duty use.

The cutting-edge, forward-facing light sensor in the Trijicon RMR HD evaluates the brightness at the target in auto mode and accordingly adjusts the reticle brightness to perform efficiently under any lighting situation. With a new reticle, users can toggle between a detailed reticle or a singular sharp dot, both of which offer a new ultra-bright setting and an added night vision setting.

The Trijicon RMR HD equips operators with the ability to modify the Auto Illumination as well as the dot/circle contrast. The upgraded features list extends to larger, more tactile buttons, new adjusters with heightened audible and tactile feedback, and a broadened field of view.

Mirroring the same footprint as the RMR and designed to be compatible with most existing optics-ready duty holsters, the Trijicon RMR HD stands ready for those in search of a high-performance optic overflowing with features and boasting exceptional reliability.

Trijicon RMR HD Red Dot Sight Overview

For those already familiar with the legacy RMR, the Trijicon RMR HD Red Dot Sight will feel instantly recognizable. The overall design is remarkably similar, maintaining the iconic "owl ear" body shape. However, the HD's window is slightly larger than its predecessor's, while still being smaller than the SRO. Additionally, the HD incorporates the SRO's forward-set body style.

Moreover, a reference line is built into the top of the frame, which is a valuable feature for users accustomed to sketching a line with a paint pen. The battery compartment is now top-loading, eliminating the need to remove the optic to replace the battery. Trijicon claims that the CR2032 battery, when used on brightness settings 5 to 9 at 70 degrees F, can power the RMR HD for three years.

In terms of brightness settings, the HD offers two additional options, including a "super bright" mode and an extra night vision setting. A lock-in feature is also available to prevent accidental adjustments to your dot's brightness. The RMR HD comes in two versions: one with a 1 MOA dot and another with a 3.25 MOA dot, and both now offer the ability to activate a 55 MOA segmented ring.

One of the standout features of the RMR HD is its ability to adjust the "relative brightness." This means users can independently set the brightness of the dot and the ring based on personal preference.

Included with our test sample was a quick-reference card that provides a comprehensive guide to the HD's extensive programming scheme. The HD utilizes the existing RMR mounting footprint, ensuring compatibility with any plates or slide cuts you have for older RMR models. The same applies to optic-height Back-Up Iron Sights (BUIS), should you utilize them.

First Shots: Trijicon RMR HD Red-Dot Sight

    5 out of 5

First off, many of you will be pleased to hear about the introduction of a top-loading battery, a feature eagerly awaited by many. No more removing the optic from your pistol just to change the battery - just secure it once, and it should last for a good while. In fact, the CR2032 battery it uses promises a long life span, slated to last for about three years on a continuous use at brightness level 5. Adding to the list of enhancements, the RMR HD offers a new multiple reticle system, broadening your choices with a 1 or 3.25 MOA dot, along with the option of adding a 55 MOA circle. This gives you the flexibility to choose between dot only or circle dot settings, catering to varied preferences. Now, let's talk about brightness settings - the optic automatically detects the optimal brightness level for your current surroundings, but if you prefer, you can manually select from 9 different levels, some of which are even compatible with night vision. The forward-mounted light sensor is a nice touch, as it adjusts based on what you're facing, rather than the lighting conditions behind you. We got the chance to rigorously test the RMR HD at a product launch, with guidance from Scott Jedlinski of the Modern Samurai Project. I must say, this optic endured a serious beating during the drills, proving its robust build and resilience to rough handling. However, note that similar to the SRO model, the RMR HD does have a slight overhang on the optic cut, which means you'll need to be cautious while selecting holster fits for your optics-bearing pistols. It's advisable to choose holster fits that are compatible with the SRO to avoid any issues. For more details on this robust and upgraded optic, head over to Trijicon's website. And don't forget to check Shooting Illustrated for more reviews on various optics. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this new offering from Trijicon.

2:32 / 9:22 Trijicon RMR HD Review (is this thing worth it?)

Unfortunately, I have some reservations about this piece. For starters, the overhang it has over the ejection port seems unnecessary and might not be the ideal fit for the Echelon, as it goes beyond the slide - a design feature that could have been improved. I find this quite irksome, though there's a redeeming quality in the larger window which gives a broader view compared to the original RMR. One neat feature is its top-load battery system which negates the need to remove the RMR when you're swapping batteries, preventing loss of zeroing. This gadget also houses windage adjustments and a nifty sensor that immediately dims the dot when covered - a quick response mechanism that adjusts to changing light conditions, which is particularly noticeable in the fluctuating sunlight today. The dot itself is a sharp 1 MOA, offering a clear and crisp point of reference. Additionally, the RMR HD offers an alternative reticle, resembling a crosshair circle with a crosshair, giving you options to choose based on your preference. I'm quite impressed with the quick target acquisition and the ease of finding the dot even in a bright setting. Despite my reservations about the overhang, I decided to give it a shot. After firing a few rounds, I could quickly reacquire the dot, even amidst the minimal recoil from the Echelon. It seems sturdy and resilient, embodying the quality we have come to expect from Trijicon, a product proudly made in the USA, Michigan to be precise. Upon inspection, there were signs of minor gas and debris impact, but no visible cartridge hits. Even though it held up well, I can't shake off the feeling that it might not be the perfect match for this gun due to the overhang. It seems a bit bulky and lacks aesthetic appeal, which somewhat dampens my initial excitement. In retrospect, while it is a powerful optic with clear and crisp glass, and a larger window, I believe Trijicon could have elevated this creation by enhancing its design. It feels like a rough fusion between the SRO and the RMR, which might appeal to some, especially if you're looking for a robust version of the SRO. In conclusion, the new RMR HD from Trijicon has its merits, but personally, I find the overhang a significant drawback for pairing it with the Echelon. However, if you're on the market for a new red dot that combines the strengths of the SRO and RMR, this might be a viable option to consider.

The RMR We've Been Waiting For!

the RMR HD, a revamped model that brings some changes to its predecessor. The most notable changes I observed were the larger window, the forward shift, and a top-mounted battery compartment, a design concept that you might have seen in the SRO. I must commend the top-mounted battery compartment and the larger window size, as they're clear improvements over the previous design. Other features that caught my eye include a rugged forged housing and the inclusion of an Index Ridge Alignment Aid. However, I did notice a drawback: the optic's compatibility with holsters due to the forward shift of the window. But don't worry, with a little modification to your holster or by opting for a newer model from Safariland designed to accommodate the change, this issue is easily resolved. I must also point out that if your gun has a deep SRO cut, the RMR HD might not be a perfect fit due to the difference in shelf heights. Yet in most of the other RMR Cuts plates and machine cuts, the RMR HD fit snugly. What I particularly liked about the RMR HD is the slightly larger window than the RMR, minimum distortion on the glass, and the availability of different reticle options. Plus, the optic features a forward-facing light sensor, a handy feature for improving auto brightness functionality. Despite the array of complex functionalities, I found the provided cheat sheet to be a lifesaver. In conclusion, let me share my thoughts about the windage and elevation adjustment knobs. They were functional, but the clicks were not as crisp as on other models. I ran a series of tests on a Glock 45 and a Staccato XC, and I can confidently say that the RMR HD held its own in both cases.
