Primary Arms SLx 5x36mm Gen III Prism Scope - ACSS-5.56/.308 Reticle

This rifle scope is part of our SLx optics line. SLx optics built our reputation for innovation, reliability and value. All SLx optics undergo rigorous field-testing during development to best serve you in any environment.

The Primary Arms 5X Compact Prism Scope Gen III with improved ACSS 5.56 reticle is our most powerful prism scope design. The 5X magnification and bright illuminated horseshoe and chevron reticle allow for surprisingly fast, both-eyes-open shooting at close range, while the ACSS reticle allows for consistent hits on targets out to an impressive 800 yards. The Gen III scope has been equipped with our next generation ruggedized mounts to provide flexible mounting options with incredible clamping power.

Features of the Primary Arms SLx 5x36mm Gen III Prism Scope:

    • New Ruggedized Mount provides exceptional clamping power
    • Includes AR-height riser
    • ACSS 5.56 reticle has BDC and ranging out to 800 yards with 5.56 NATO, .223 Remington, 5.45x39mm, and .308 Winchester
    • Partially illuminated reticle is visible even in bright daylight with red or green illumination
    • Red or green illumination available on the same optic for greater flexibility
    • Removable M1913 picatinny top rail for accessories or piggy-backed red dot sights
    • Generous 10.3mm exit pupil allows for a bright and forgiving eye box
    • 18.8ft field of view at 100 yards provides easier tracking of mobile targets
    • 2.7" - 3.0" of eye relief
    • 1/4 MOA turret clicks are tactile and audible for easy zeroing
    • Tough prism scope is waterproof, fog resistant, and shockproof
    • Durable hardcoat anodized black finish
    • Compatible with standard carry handle mounts
    • Protected by a lifetime warranty

The heart of our tough Gen II 5X Prism Scope is the ACSS 5.56 reticle that combines ranging, wind leads, moving target leads, and ballistic drop compensation out to 800 yards. To the right of the BDC ladder is our integrated ranging system. Place the bottom of the target on the bottom rung, and range up. If you know your targets are roughly 18 inches wide, they can be ranged on the side Auto Range system, or directly on the BDC hold overs! Two dots on either side of the horseshoe offer a moving target lead moving with an average speed of 8.6 MPH. Each step of the BDC system includes a 5 MPH wind hold, drastically improving first hit probability at any range. A center chevron allows for an infinitely precise aiming point that won't occlude the target. As an added bonus, the glass etched reticle does not require batteries or illumination, but 10 brightness settings (5 red and 5 green) allow for fast acquisition in close quarters, or enhanced visibility in fading light, powered by a common CR2032 battery!

The SLx 5X Gen III has even greater strength and flexibility than ever before with our next generation ruggedized mounting system. We’ve upgraded everything about the mount from materials and finish to the design to create a mount that will not just clamp securely to your rail, but stand up the rigors of real-world use. Integrated recoil lugs help lock your mount in place against the heaviest recoil while large diameter crossbolts give you significantly improved clamping power and will hold up to significant torque. The included riser is the perfect height for AR-15s and AR-10s, but can be easily removed for carry handle or AK use as well.

Great, well thought out optic for crumbs!

The acss reticle on this optic has been carefully designed and includes many useful features. The optic and glass are of high quality and should withstand most uses. It's important to note that this scope is not on par with a Trijicon ACOG but doesn't come with an ACOG price tag. In my experience, this scope holds zero well, and the fact that it uses the same base mount as the ACOG means many aftermarket mounts are available for those who want a quick transition from optics to iron sights. It's worth noting that this set-up will not allow for cowitnessing.

Very impressive, but a couple things you should know.

Before purchasing the PA 5X prism scope, I did a lot of comparison shopping. I had previously used an Aimpoint with a 3X magnifier on my 6.8 caliber rifle, which is my primary hunting rifle. However, my vision isn't what it used to be, so I wanted something better for longer-range shooting (over 100 yards). After shooting 200 rounds with the Primary Arms scope, I can confidently say that it is just as accurate as any other optic I've ever used. I was initially worried that the ACSS reticle might have too much going on and be distracting, but it was not a problem at all. One thing to note is that after shooting 50 rounds with the scope mounted on my rifle, I noticed a slight wiggle in the scope. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the screws holding the scope to the mount had worked themselves loose. Before remounting it, I had to remove the scope and apply a thread locker to the screws. After doing this and shooting an additional 150 rounds, there was no movement at all. Another minor issue is that the lens caps need to have a tight fit and tend to move around a bit. It's not a significant concern for me, but if I were to lose them, I would replace them with Butler Creek caps. Overall, this is a great optic and a great value.

I initially hesitated to buy one of these scopes because they are affordable. However, I had heard good things about the primary arms slx, so I decided to try it on my AR. It was a nice bonus that it came with flip-up caps, and the reticle was very clear. There is almost no blur or starburst around the reticle, except on the brightest setting, which I will never use. I prefer to keep it in the middle setting. I shot well with this scope and was able to zero it quickly.

Absolutely the best prism scope I have ever used.

This primary arms 5x prism scope has exceptional clarity and accuracy, especially after it has been zeroed at 100 yards. The etched reticle is very effective in helping you aim accurately. The BDC lines for bullet drop and windage are spot on. When I let a friend shoot with this scope, all he could say was that he needed to get one for his AR. I cannot recommend this scope enough - it's exceptional, and words cannot do it justice. You'll have to try it out to fully understand what I mean.

    PA 5X prism scope

I recently had the opportunity to zero in on the scope I've had for about a month. I mounted it on a M&P15 rifle, which was already very accurate with iron sights. After zeroing the scope, I was able to shoot 1.25-inch groups at 100 yards, which is impressive for someone with poor eyesight like myself. I chose the 5X magnification over the 3X because of my vision, and I'm glad I did. I'm excited to take this scope to the 1400 yard range and test it at longer distances. Overall, it was a good investment. If you can't afford a Trijicon with the ACSS reticle, I recommend the PA 5X or 3X prism scope. It's a well-made optic.

This works just as well as any Trijicon for a lot less money

I highly recommend this AR scope for its excellent value for money. It features the ACSS Aurora reticle and looks great on my AR-15, paired with my 45° offset Bushnell Red Dot. It performs just as well as any Trijicon, and I can't think of any negatives. It could potentially have better low-light capabilities and Eye Relief, but those features would significantly increase the cost. That said, even at night, you can still see your aim point with minimal glare by setting the illumination to 1 or 2, red or green. Overall, I am delighted with this scope and would recommend it for any purpose.

Great prism scope At A Great Pricew

If you want a Trijicon ACOG but can't justify the high price tag, the Primary Arms 5X Prism Scope is a great alternative that costs uder $400. I mounted this scope on my M4 (16" barrel) because I wasn't happy with the accuracy of an unmagnified red dot at 50-100 yard ranges. My only concern was that I need to add a red dot on top of the scope for close-quarters targets. I also worried that the front sight would be blurry if I tried to co-witness iron sights through a magnified scope. The Primary Arms 5X Prism Scope solved all of these problems. Firstly, my accuracy improved significantly at 50-100 yards because the Primary Arms reticle dot is smaller than a typical red dot, so I could place shots precisely on target. For close-quarters targets, the horseshoe ring around the dot in the Acss reticle was very effective because the scope has such a large field of view. This meant I didn't need to install a red dot on top of the scope. Additionally, the Primary Arms reticle image is etched onto the scope and is very visible in daylight, so if the battery dies, the scope will still work. This means that I don't need to install backup iron sights. In fact, I found myself turning off the red/green reticle illumination during daylight hours because the reticle image is so clear. I haven't had a chance to test the P.A. scope at 200-400 yard ranges yet because of gusty and variable autumn winds in southern Arizona, but based on the many web videos I've seen of the P.A. scope in action at these ranges, I'm excited to see if I'll be able to hit targets that far out on a calm day.

This is an excellent choice if you're in the market for a fixed 5x prism scope. It's crisp and works well, even if you have astigmatism. It's also nice that you can choose between a red or green reticle or go with the simple black option, which is usually adequate. I have a lot of experience with ACOGs from my military service and deployments, and this is a budget-friendly option that offers a similar style. The field of view isn't as good as a Trijicon, but the eye relief is more forgiving. I highly recommend this scope if you're considering a prism scope.

Best prism scope in the price range

I recently purchased this scope to replace a previous 4x scope that I returned after shooting 200 rounds. It arrived at my door within 3 days of ordering, and upon opening the box, I was impressed with its quality and appearance. The glass is clear, and the reticle is exceptional, mainly because it only illuminates the horseshoe and chevron. It was easy to zero in at 25 yards on paper straight out of the box. If you are searching for a scope within the $500 range, this is the best prism scope available.

I waited to purchase the Gen III because I wanted the chevron. I’m glad I waited. First of all, the battery was dead on arrival (Not a huge deal). New battery in, and it looks great. Very clear. The reticle was blurry at first, but then I remembered the focus (my fault). Now it’s perfect. Changing elevation, windage, and illumination knobs seem a little stiff. I don’t plan on adjusting these often, so no big deal: folks, this an awesome optic. Excellent value! I like this so much; I’m getting another ASAP—simple, no-brainer purchase. I have no doubt it will be an excellent optic for many years. I highly recommend it.
