    VX-Freedom Rifle Scope 2-7x 33mm
    5 out of 5
    Location:
    Date: August 15, 2018
I preordered one of the newest Leupold VX Freedom 2-7x33 rimfire scopes in January and received it a day or two following their release on February 2nd. From unboxing to mounting and zeroing, I have to say that overall I'm impressed by the quality of the range from Leupold's new Freedom line, particularly whenever you consider their present price point. Out from the box, the extent I obtained had a beautiful matt black finish with no evident exterior flaws and a superb general fit/finish. The variable magnification power ring is smooth through the whole selection and in my view, has the proper amount of resistance to get a hunting extent. Not too much a throw lever is required yet not so mild an inadvertent bump would change it. The eyewear case allows more than sufficient modification for me to find a sharp and visible reticle picture and I as if Leupold added the ocular lock ring to the Freedom series. The turrets are ¼, MOA per click, semi-permeable, and therefore are finger adjustable, no screwdriver or tools required. Now, I'm not claiming these scopes feature Steiner or Schmidt & Bender quality glass but, the eye box, edge to edge clarity throughout the whole magnification range, and low light performance would be to me, except for the sphere within this budget. While I will not go in the long-winded comparison, I'd want to share that I completed many side-by-side observations into some other entry-level scopes I'd laying around, a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 and Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32. The overall glass transparency in all magnification ranges along with the light gathering capability in low light conditions was considerably better on the Leupold than that of either the Vortex or the Nikon. Even though I cannot yet speak as to the scopes longevity, I currently feel that Leupold has done a fantastic job in the event the rest of the Freedom line-up is something similar to the extent I obtained. So far, my only criticism concerning these scopes will be that no lens covers are contained, not a $5 cm like the VX-1's arrived with. While I understand they're attempting to keep the price down, I honestly desire Leupold would include some lens covers. To date, the least expensive I've been able to source equally Alumina covers for this extent, the ocular and the goal, is around $110. Though the Alumina covers are hands down better than other options available, the total for both is not far off from the purchase price of the scope itself!.
