The Remington 742 unit fits flawlessly onto my rifle. The four screws in the kit align with the pre-existing holes provided by Remington on the top of the receiver, and the mount's holes also line up perfectly. One observation I have made is that the stock sights on the rifle are obstructed by this rail style. However, if you desire to use both a scope and the factory sights, you can purchase two-piece see-through scope mounts that can be screwed directly onto the receiver.

This is easily the least expensive AND best rail mount I've come across. Not only is the body of the rail well designed, the coating is tough as nails too. Only downside of the entire process was paying more for shipping than the actual cost of the part.
