After spending a fortune on mounts that don't fit, I went back to the good old fashioned days of Weaver rails on old hunting rifles. The Long action Savages can be a bear to set up without the right mounts and rings, and this gun had separate mounting plates that the scope barely would fit, and it required a tight fit using the thinnest rings. Weaver made life easy, and it was $20. Old rifle coming back to life.

When installing the Savage 110 Weaver base, I found that the fit to the gun was not as precise as I had hoped. However, the additional scope mount slots on the one piece mount were a significant improvement compared to the single slot on the two piece mount that came with the gun from Savage. In order to use the short 223 cartridge, I had to relieve the cartridge loading cutout clearance. Overall, while the fit was not perfect, the additional mount slots and ability to use a variety of cartridges made the Savage 110 Weaver base a useful addition to my rifle.

My husband owns two Savage 110 long action rifles that have the issue of the front scope mount needing to connect over the opening of the action. To solve this problem, he purchased the Weaver Savage 110 base for each rifle. This rail allows the front mount to connect to the rail for stability and be inline with the rear mount and scope tube. It has not caused any problems with case ejection, as the cases fly out just fine. He paired the bases with Weaver steel rings for added durability and reliability.

I bought this weaver savage 110 base for my son's rifle because the bases that came with the gun didn't allow the scope to come back far enough for him. This base gives you the flexibility to mount your scope in many more positions than you would have with two-piece bases. The base came with screws that require a flat head screwdriver, and I would have much-preferred Torx or hex head screws. But I was able to mount it securely, and for what you get versus the money spent, it's hard to complain.

My Buckmasters scope was to short to permit mounting on my savage 110 long actions (30/06) with a two-piece base. This Weaver one piece mount fixed the problem!
