Rust/Blue
I only used a little dab on a nick on a rifle barrel, and it seemed to work just fine. I cleaned the area well using a cleaning solvent and warmed the area to about 120f with a propane torch, and it cleaned up the mild rust and reset a new blue coating. Will try a larger area next try.
Birchwood Casey Blue & Rust Remover
I used the Blue and Rust Remover in restoring two older guns. The Remover was very effective at removing blueing and helpful with rust removal. I found that a wire-brush wheel mounted on a grinder was helpful with some of the rusted spots. I'm sure that I'll use the product again in the future.
Excellent rust remover
I used this to remove years of dirt, rust, and corrosion on an antique gun I was refinishing, and it worked excellently. Be sure and use rubber gloves as it will burn skin. It removed more rust, and bad areas than I thought it could, and the finished gun is now hanging on my wall.
Removed Old Blueing to Gray-matte finish
I have been using this Birchwood Casey Blue and Rust Remover to remove old bluing and rust from an old Remington 513 single-shot .22 rifle and Ruger GP100. Make sure you follow the instructions and work patiently for good results. I finished each firearm with about four applications to a gray-matte finish and later applied BC's blueing. I do suggest surgical/medical gloves. I didn't wear gloves for both rifles, and my hands began to peel small pieces of skin about two days later. No rash or stinging or pain, just irritating like dry hands moving across the fleece. It does what it's designed to do, and I recommend this to remove blueing.
