nightforce 3-10x42 shv review - Hight Quality if you dont need full-on tactical or competition scopes
I was traveling through the outbacks of Oregon when I spotted movement in the sagebrush. I stopped my truck and got out with my .243AI rifle equipped with the new Nightforce 3-10X42mm SHV scope. I was amazed at the clarity and flatness of the field of view (FOV) in the scope as I searched for a fleeing coyote. Although the coyote disappeared into a crease in the sagebrush, I was impressed with the sight picture. The flatness of the sight picture is a characteristic of good glass that is hard to describe, but it was possibly due to the morning sun lighting up the Great Basin landscape. When Len asked me if I'd like to try the new 3-10X42mm SHV scope and write a review, I eagerly agreed, although I was a bit skeptical, as I have seen some companies reduce quality and costs after building a brand. However, Nightforce has not done this with the SHV line. They continue to produce high-quality NXS and ATACR series scopes, and even improved quality and features with the BEAST series. The SHV line fills a new niche in the market, bridging the gap between more common, name-brand scopes and serious tactical scopes. It provides an in-between option for those who still want the Nightforce quality, but don't need the full-on tactical or competition scopes. The 3-10X42mm SHV scope is perfect for predator calling, with a top magnification of 10 power and a field of view at 100 yards of 34.9 feet. It is suitable for most big game hunting as well, with a length of 11.6 inches, weight of 20.8 ounces, tube diameter of 30mm, 0.25 moa click value, 90 moa total elevation adjustment, 70 moa windage adjustment, and 3.46" eye relief. The 42mm objective lens provides a larger exit pupil than some Nightforce scopes, and the capped windage and elevation turrets are a bonus for hunters who need to move quickly. Although this scope does not have a ZeroStop or illuminated reticle option, it has reticle options including the MOAR and the IHR (International Hunting Reticle), which the review scope carried. The MOAR is great for quick holdover references, while the IHR reticle is good for predator hunting as it draws the eye to center the target quickly. In conclusion, the Nightforce 3-10X42mm SHV scope is a high-quality, in-between option for those who want Nightforce quality but don't need the full-on tactical or competition scopes.

Nightforce SHV 3-10×42 review
The Nightforce 3-10x42 SHV is a budget-friendly optic with Nightforce quality and reticles. It comes with 90 MOA of internal elevation adjustment, 80 MOA of windage adjustment, and a weight of 20.8 ounces. The reviewed optic has the MOAR 30 MOA reticle, which is crisp and clean and ideal for precision shooting and fast aim acquisition. The capped, finger adjustable turrets have a solid detent, are easy to use, and resetting zero is easy with the coin slot screw. The parallax knob is well marked, fluid and smooth. The power ring is stiff but does not turn the whole eyepiece, and the fast focus eyepiece is stiff but easily adjusted. The glass was pleasantly surprising and performed above its price point. It provided clear and crisp images in timber and performed well in harsh weather conditions. The power ring and focus ring were stiff but usable in cold weather, while the parallax functioned flawlessly. The optic is usable and enhances the view even at 10 power at distances over 1000 yards.
Nightforce SHV 3-10 on SCAR
I mounted the Nightforce SHV 3-10x42mm on a SCAR Heavy with a Leupold Mark 4 integral mount and it has performed well, handling the forward recoil of the rifle. While it's the largest scope I wanted to mount on an already heavy rifle, it has good quality glass. If you're looking to compete or operate in a LE/Mil environment, the NXS series may be a better fit. But for its value, the SHV series is a great option.
Could use larger reticle markings
The Nightforce SHV scope is of high quality, however, the numbers on its reticle are difficult to see due to their small size. It is recommended that Nightforce increases the size of these numbers to enhance visibility. Another drawback of this model is the absence of a sunshade accessory.
Fantastic glass, build and reticle
The Nightforce SHV 3-10×42 is exceptional in every way. The Glass is phenomenally clear. The reticle is so easy to see and perfectly designed for long-range hunting and tactical shooting. The build quality is exceptional, and that creates the only problem I see in a scope designed for fishing... It is pretty heavy, especially for the size. Glass as good as it gets, if NightForce can figure out how to build as lightweight as a Leupold or Swarovski for hunting, they will have a whole new market to exploit.
