Direct Mounts but sits too high to use standard height sights on Sig 229

This Holosun SCS (SCS-320-GR) is a fantastic pistol-mounted optic, specifically designed for Sig pistols. It directly mounts onto Sig slides with a DPP footprint but is too high for standard height sights on a new Legion 229. Interestingly, the 229's factory optic cut accommodates both DPP and RMR footprints. The SCS-320-GR, an enclosed emitter design, installs easily with two supplied screws, torqued to 15 inch-pounds and secured with medium-strength Loctite. It features a green, automatic brightness-controlled multi-reticle (2 MOA dot, 32 MOA circle, or dot in a circle) and lacks manual brightness settings, which hasn't been an issue as it adjusts brightness based on downrange lighting, not just at the optic. The internal rechargeable battery boasts a 20,000-hour capacity, even in complete darkness, making it a low-maintenance option. I highly recommend it for Sigs and would also suggest the Glock-specific version for mounting on a Glock MOS slide.

I recently installed the Holosun SCS on my P320 M17, starting by removing the rear sight plate as per the P320's instructions. This involved pressing in the extractor, moving the rear plate down, and then taking out the extractor and striker assembly to reach the two screws inside the slide that hold the rear sight plate. After cleaning the threads and applying Blue Loctite, I mounted the Holosun sight on top with two screws. The fit was very snug, suggesting it should hold up well against recoil. The included tool made sight adjustment easy. The green dot and circle are clearly visible even in bright sunlight. Since the rear sight plate was removed, there's no rear sight to co-witness with, but the front sight is still visible in the window. The auto-adjust feature also performs well in darker conditions.

Working night shifts for a sheriff's department in California, I often encounter a bit of sunlight before dusk. The optic has proven to be durable, handling rain and rough backwoods terrain well. I make sure to keep it clean with a microfiber cloth. Out of caution, I take off my slide and expose the optic to direct sunlight for charging once a month, and it's been working flawlessly, especially the auto-adjust feature. The only minor issue I've noticed is a rapid flickering when it tries to adjust to the red and blue lights during high-risk stops, but it hasn't been a significant problem or distraction. Overall, it's a solid optic for patrol duties.
