AK-47 Quad Rail Handguard by Tapco
The Tapco Intrafuse AK-47 Quad Rail Handguard is designed to allow this traditional weapon to be outfitted with the latest AK accessories. For those who currently own AK-47s, they are very unique and powerful weapons that unfortunately were designed back in the 1940s and 1950s. At that time, there were far fewer of the modern accessories that we see today available. Essentially, this means that a standard AK-47 is simply not equipped to properly add on new accessories.
Tapco seeks to alter that fact by introducing a new AK handguard which adds a new Picatinny rails to the bottom of the weapon. The rail itself is hidden and generally cannot be seen unless closely inspected. There are also two side rails as well that are pre-installed and a heat shield which adds even more protection to the user as well.
In addition, there is another matching handguard that includes a Picatinny rail as well which not only add more function, but a sense of style to the AK-47 and helps bring it into the modern age. The rail will allow you to add quite a few features such as lasers, lights and whatever else fits on that type of rail.
There are a few things to consider when ordering this new Intrafuse Quad Rail Handguard kit, including the fact that it may require modifications if it is going to work on a MAK-90. However, such modifications may void the warranty on the kit itself.
The entire package includes the following items;
- Upper Handguard w/Attached Picatinny Rail
- Lower Handguard w/Molded Lower Picatinny Rail
- Two Pre-Installed Side Rails
- Heat Shield
- Lower Rail Cover

Tapco AK-47 Quad Rail Handguard
Great product. Fast shipping. Excellent service
Tapco Quad Mount
Getting the old hand guard off was the real problem. Flathead and muscle until it popped and gave way. Putting on the new one was easy. I like it. I like the way it looks. I have a foregrip attach to the rail now. Haven't went shooting yet but seems to be sturdy and stong.
Tapco AK handguard
If you're building an AK and want to make it "compliant," there aren't a lot of choices. TAPCO is one of them. Due to differences in the design of the AK (not standardized like the mil-spec AR), you may have to contour some of the innards to get it to fit. What's good about it? Colors are nicely done, plastic is hard, feels good in the hand. Problems with it: because there's no cleaning rod hole, only a channel, it's near to impossible to get the cleaning rod back in - you have to take off the handguard half to do it. The "sliding" rail cover comes off the rifle if you know how to do combat reloads with the AK. Bottom line: looks cool for fun and games, not high for serious use.
Nice handguard for a AK
This is a nice handguard for the AK. Simple to mount without having to do any modification. The Tapco AK quad-rail handguard gives the AK a tactical look, plus give you the ability to mount a light, vertical grip or bipod. A great piece all around
Rated 5 out of 5 stars Nice addition to my AK
Quick to install, without any trimming necessary on my WASR. The Tapco AK Quad Rail Handguard has an Integrated heat shield on the bottom half, and the lower rail cover just slipped it.
easy to install, tapco always makes a quality product for the best price.
Got the handguards for my Romanian AK and was ready for some work after reading some reviews online. I'm not sure what these guys are having problems with, mine fit almost perfectly. There are two little dimples at the bottom of the top handguard that I used a coping saw to cut of in less than a minute. After that, perfect fit! Handguards look great and feel much better than the stock wooden ones.
Excellent fit, looks good, works well.
I am really pleased with the TAPCO kit. I threw it on my Romanian AK and it fit and functioned great. I tried to throw a red dot on top, but to much movement. Not tight enough to maintain zero. The side rails work fine, have an X300 mounted up, and threw a AFG2 underneath. The space between the cuts in the side rails is not standard, so if you have something that has to index/mounting bolts etc, it won't mate up, but lights like the X300, Insight, Streamlights TRL's will work just fine.
This set of rails is manufactured to fit stamped receivers. I didn't know this when ordering them. I have a milled receiver. When I phoned the manufacturer I was thus informed and told that if I modified them to fit by taking a file or flex shaft to make the fit, the manufacturer would stand by their product and credit me for a return if there was a problem. I made them fit and they seem to work just fine.
