Mesa Tactical LEO Gen II Telescoping Stock Adapter For Moss 500/590A1/Mav88 (12-GA And 20-GA)

Use Mesa Tactical’s collapsible stock kits and adapters to install AR-15 adjustable buttstocks and pistol grips onto the venerable Mossberg 500 shotgun platforms for the ultimate in tactical shotgun configuration performance.

The LEO aluminum adapter kits include everything necessary to retrofit Mossberg pump shotguns with most AR-15 style stocks and pistol grips. Our adapter kits allow customers to add their own AR-15 stock assemblies as desired. LEO® telescoping stock adapters, feature a stock elevation about an inch lower than the High-tube adapters and so don’t require sighting or aiming aids.

The concept behind the telescoping stock system is simple: the shotgun stock is replaced by an adapter, which attaches to the rear end of the shotgun’s receiver and it, in turn, mimics the rear end of an AR-15 lower receiver, into which an AR-15 receiver extension tube can be threaded. The AR-15 telescoping stock and pistol grip can then be reliably attached.

Our LEO stock adapters are investment cast aircraft aluminum. They are then CNC machined and a powder-coated finish.

The LEO adapter is our most basic, best-selling model, and features an optimal stock elevation allowing the use of iron sights or even the bead sight. All LEO adapters accept optional push-button sling swivels, and Remington 870 LEO adapters can accept stamped steel sling loop and hook loops.

    Mesa Tactical Stock Adapter

    5 out of 5
    Location:
    Date: August 24, 2023

In the summer of 2017, I revamped my Mossberg 500 with all ATI furniture. Aesthetically, I was smitten, but its design, particularly the plastic buffer tube, left much to be desired. The buffer tube's sole attachment point was a single screw beneath the rubber piece on the beavertail. This design flaw resulted in the buffer tube wobbling, and when shooting, the recoil made it feel like a punch to the cheek. Driven to find a solution, I stumbled upon an adapter from Mesa Tactical during my research. Exclusively available at OpticsPlanet then, this aluminum-made adapter allows for regular AR-style buffer tubes and grips. One downside, however, was its inability to accommodate pistol grips with beavertails, a feature I fancy. Temporarily, I settled for an A2 pistol grip, but I've ordered a Hogue overmolded rubber grip, which I'm excited to try. The installation process was smooth, taking about 35-40 minutes to transition from the ATI furniture. Now, my Mossberg feels sturdy with no wobbling, thanks to the Mesa Tactical adapter which also includes QD sling mounts on both sides. For those interested, these adapters are available for a range of guns including Mossberg 500, 590, Maverick 88, and certain Remington models.

Seems well-made, but not very light

It’s kind a hard to give it Five stars when I haven’t handled it roughly or anything yet or even shot with it. It’s quite a significant chunk of metal. It was heavier than I thought it would be, but I’m not sure that’s bad. It just may be hasn’t had a bunch of engineering done to lighten it up as much as possible. But it seems solid which is what matters to me especially in a shotgun that I’m not necessarily carrying around all day and the weight is on my end so it’s not such a big deal anyway. I was just surprised that it wasn’t so light like a lot of things are today. They went together very easily. I’m very glad they had it. It’s expensive but I wasn’t willing to get something cheaper that I may not like and if I ever really need to use it I want to know that it’s well-made. It won’t break on me. It gives me a very solid check position for the bead sight or in my case fiber optic. It would be low for a red dot but I think might be ok for relatively low irons. I was able to jam my cheek into the stock and get a solid position. I’m glad I got it. It’s functions, and from what I can tell, it seems like the reviews made it sound better than any of the others. Happy with my purchase.

Bad machining on receiver extension threads

I will either be sending it back for a replacement or a refund. The machining on the inside threads is bad. Email I sent to Mesa Tactical on 06/24/21. "I recently purchased a Mesa Tactical LEO Telescoping stock adapter for Mossberg 500 (12-GA and 20-GA) from Mounting Solutions Plus.  My question is the following; how "loose"/"wobble" should the receiver extension fit into the adaptor? My mil-spec receiver extension (and two others I have tried) are extremely sloppy and wobble when threaded into the adaptor prior to tightening the castle nut. I have a short video of the "loose"/"wobbly" fit along with a photo of the threaded area of the adaptor and a copy of my receipt from Mounting Solutions Plus. Is this wobble "normal"? Or is this a factory manufacturing defect of some kind on this particular adapter? To me it seems as if the threads insde the adaptor are barely able to hold the receiver extension in place."

    Mossberg 500 stock adapter

I had wanted to try a setup like this for a while. Tax time came around, so I made the jump. I purchased the entire Mesa Tactical setup for a Mossberg 590SP I had also just purchased. Installation is straight forward. If you've done any stock swapping or building of an AR15 style rifle, you probably won't even have to look at the instructions. The stock adapter itself is ROBUST. I've looked at other stock adapters for various shotguns, and I'm happy I spent the extra money on this one. Nice and thick in all the right places, and for being aluminum, it has some nice heft to it. I've only just put it on and not even shot the shotgun yet, but I don't see how this thing would ever fail. Even the finish looks and feels thick and sturdy. Sure, there are cheaper options out there, but after seeing some of them up close, and considering the real power of a shotgun, I'd seriously question their reliability. I found out the hard way that not all aftermarket stocks are created equal to another Mossberg I have. Plus, this one gives you the option to choose any MIL-SPEC type AR stock of your choice. In my case, the Magpul CTR. Just a word of note to potential buyers. Be careful about which pistol grip you order for this adapter. Any pistol grip with the thumb cushion will not fit, and you will need to cut the curved part flush, so it sits on the adapter at a 90-degree angle. I didn't realize this and ordered the Magpul MOE+. Not a huge deal, and nothing a few minutes with a hack saw won't solve, but it doesn't specify on the site, and some might be irritated by that. Magpul and Hogue both make a grip that will slip on without modification, though. MSP, as usual, fast shipping and excellent customer service! No complaints on either here!

This is exactly what I needed. The fit is perfect for my shockwave, And with a pistol tube and a KAK brace, it has the rear reinforcement that I wanted. Now this thing is robust enough that I know It’ll withstand heavy use.

    very solid tactical stock system

I originally was going to go with a folding stock on my Mossberg 500 but decided to build with Mesa Tactical LEO Stock Adapter. The cost a little more when you add all the parts (AR stock, buffer tube, pistol grip). However well worth it. It makes a very solid tactical stock system that will take a lot of punishment.

Great setup for a Mossberg 500a

I attached the Purchase Mesa LEO Adapter for my old Mossberg 500a to correct the length of pull for me, works excellent now. Its time to hang some more Magpul on it. I will say this, once this is installed using the action release is more than a bit tricky, but shoten armory makes a great product to fix that.

Buffer tube will be at an upward angle.

Mates to my Mossberg receiver just fine. Pistol grip mounting is good. Problem I have is the buffer tube is angled upward. My cheek weld is too high, compared to a stock. I'm looking at the top of the receiver, if the tube was at the correct angle the top of the receiver should disappear.

I bought this to install on my Mossberg Shockwave and it works perfectly coupled with the SB-tactical SBA-3 brace! The angle coming off the receiver is straight instead of angled down. This is a much better product than the ERGO adapter in my opinion! Buy it! You won’t be disappointed!
