The Highest Value Duty Optic on The Market

    5 out of 5
    Location:
    Date: October 21, 2023

The EOTech 512 stands out due to its durability, clarity, and value for money. Despite being one of EOTech's oldest models, it's still widely used by militaries globally. The holographic reticle is bright, clear, and offers both speed and precision. The "donut of death" reticle design is particularly effective for both close and long-range engagements. Battery life is around 1,000 hours, and it uses easily accessible AA batteries. Comparing it to popular low power variable optics (LPVOs), the EOTech 512 is more compact, lighter, and better suited for close-quarter scenarios. While LPVOs might offer advantages at longer ranges, in most real-world situations, a holographic sight like the 512 is more practical. Lastly, I'd like to give a shoutout to a fellow from Texas who powder-coated a rail for me in a burnt bronze color. Check out his work on Instagram. In conclusion, if you're looking for a reliable, duty-grade optic without breaking the bank, the EOTech 512 is a top contender.

    Best AR Optic Under $500.00

I've been in the gun community for a while and am familiar with the debate between the EOTech 512 and the Aimpoint Micro T2. While both have their strengths and weaknesses, I chose the EOTech 512 as my primary red dot. My aim is to provide valuable information to help others make informed decisions. The EOTech 512 stands out because of its unique design, large sight picture, and clear glass. Its 68 MOA Circle and 1 MOA dot make target transitions easy and accurate. However, a downside is its reliance on two AA batteries, which only provide about 41 days of runtime. Despite this, the EOTech 512 excels in close-quarter situations. If you're in an urban setting and don't mind frequently changing batteries, it's a great choice. But for long-term survival scenarios, other options like the Aimpoint Micro T2 might be better.

    American Made Holographic Optic

    Location:
    Date: October 21, 2023

The EOTech 512 is renowned for its unique reticle, which consists of a central 1 MOA dot surrounded by a 68 MOA circle. This design aids in quick target acquisition and precise aiming. Adjustments are made easy with large knobs that can even be turned using a shell casing. The sight offers 20 brightness settings, but no night vision on this model. It operates on two double A batteries, promising up to 2,200 hours of use. It's water-resistant up to 10 feet and proudly made in the USA. After using it for over two and a half years, I can vouch for its exceptional build quality and durability. The clarity of the glass is top-notch, and the sight offers a wide field of view, making it ideal for close-quarter combat scenarios. However, there are a few cons. The battery life, while decent, doesn't match some modern optics that offer tens of thousands of hours. The weight, at 11.5 ounces, might be a bit much for some users, especially when paired with other accessories. Lastly, while it has an auto-off feature, it lacks the increasingly popular auto-on or "shake awake" feature seen in many modern red dots. In terms of price, the EOTech 512 offers great value, often found for under $400. While I highly recommend it, I'd advise potential buyers to check it out in person to ensure it suits their eyesight and preferences. Overall, I'm a huge fan of this optic and believe its benefits far outweigh its minor drawbacks.

Eotech 512 Holographic Weapon Sight Review

One standout feature of the 512 is its use of common double A batteries, boasting a runtime of 2,500 hours on lithium and 2,200 hours on alkaline. It has two buttons for operation, with the down arrow giving a 4-hour auto shut-off and the up arrow giving 8 hours. The holographic sight offers a crisp 68 MOA circle with a central 1 MOA dot, making it perfect for home defense. Over my three decades of training law enforcement and military personnel, many prefer EOTechs for their ease of use and rugged reliability. The large reticle is especially handy. For home defense shotguns, the red circle can be used to gauge shot patterns, which can be invaluable in a hallway defense scenario. After some shooting tests, I found that once the 512 is zeroed in at 25 yards, it's accurate at 200 yards. This was evident when I transitioned between a 25-yard target and a 200-yard one. The results were impressive, especially considering my aging eyesight. For close-quarters like hallways, this optic is unbeatable. Even if the front glass breaks, the holographic sight remains functional. Its durability, combined with the convenience of using common batteries and the auto-off feature, makes the EOTech 512 a top recommendation. If you're considering long-distance shooting, I'd suggest adding a magnifier.

    Reliable AR Sight

    Location:
    Date: October 21, 2023

The primary appeal of holographic optics is their speed, especially for close-quarters combat shooting. I personally find them to be the fastest, especially when tracking moving targets. The EOTech 512 is unique with its inline double AA battery compartment. I'll be comparing it to other offerings from EOTech and different brands. A few technical details about the EOTech 512: it has an 8-hour runtime with the "on" button and 4 hours with the "off" button. It's designed to be parallax-free, meaning the reticle remains stationary even if you move your head. This optic is lightweight, but its size might be a concern for those wanting to pair it with a magnifier. It's made in Michigan, USA, which many appreciate. In terms of durability, it's been reliable in my tests, even with rough use.

Solid product. battery life is what it is, with that considered it very nice. Holds up to the recoil of 7.62x39 quite well, no shift in zero over several hundred rounds. the only downsides I could think of would be the battery life and the weight. Other than that the sight is rock solid and easy to use. it definitely won't be taking the place of my Trijicon MRO on my AR, though ;)

I have this EOTech 512 mounted

I have this EOTech 512 mounted on a gun. It probably was never intended for - a Marlin 1895GS - using an XS systems scope mount. Despite some brickbats from people in lever gun forums who decry such an item on a lever gun, I am VERY happy. Think about it - this sight is the first optic device I have used in a shooting career spanning some 30 years where it is instinctive to hold both eyes open. The hologram seems to float out at about 50 yards, and you focus on it and your target all at once - not the front sight, or the back sight, or the target, or the reticle - just everything, all at once. You can move your head wherever you want, and while the hologram seems to move in the sight window, the point of aim remains in position - you have to see this to understand how unique this is and how useful in snap shooting it can be. Add to that 20 brightness settings so powerful that even wearing sunglasses, I had the unit set at about 12, and that was just fine. The unit is built like a tank - I truly believe you could pound on it with a rock, and it would still be OK. You could certainly drop your rifle onto the unit and have no issues. Click adjustments are precise and positive. I handle the recoil from souped-up 45/70 loads on a light little Guide Gun without any issues. So this year, when the deer come out at dusk, and my buddies are having issues picking up the animals in their scopes, I'll be sending 300 grains of JHP downrange at 2150fps because I'll be able to see them with no issues. This unit is expensive but tough, really well made, and unique in operation and function. You are highly recommended for out to 150 yards in less than perfect conditions.

    EOTech 512 a magnificent sight

This a great sight. The EOTech 512 sight has a circle with a red dot in the center. The dot appears to be a few feet in front of the gun. It allows you to shoot with both eyes open with full peripheral vision. I am also slightly farsighted, so this allows me to shoot without glasses as the sight and the target are both clearly visible without glasses. It was originally designed as a tactical entry scope for military and police, so the peripheral vision is great. The brightness is adjustable, and the sight turns itself off after 4 or 8 hours, so you never "forget" and ruin batteries. I even had a set of alkaline batteries leak in this sight. I cleaned it up with a Q-tip and alcohol. The mil-spec materials never corroded.

This is a great sight. I'm a Marine and used one in Iraq and bought one for my own personal M-4. Great for shooting on the move with both eyes open. It's quick, fast, and accurate. The 510 allows you to brighten or dim the reticle, which is a big help indoors or outdoors. A rear flip-up sight can be zeroed and used for those far off shots 300 meters and more, you just turn it off (optional really) and view the sights right through the large viewing window. Best holographic sight out there right now!

Review: I have had the Site on my AR for about five years. I was pleased at first, but the last time I took it outfit wouldn't power up. I changed the Batteries, and it worked. I took it out the other day,it wouldn't power up. I changed the batteries, even though they were hardly used. I still wouldn't power up. I made all the troubleshooting from their Website, no luck. I now have to send it back. The repair will be free, but it's a hassle. I don't want something that quits working while sitting in my Safe. I should have taken a refund last Year. I am now looking at Scopes.
