The Vortex Strike Eagle was designed primarily for dual use as Shooting Tactical/Hunting scope for quick shooting from 15-600 yards but found the greatest application in the growing world of 3-gun competition that has created a new market for low power scopes. However, this is great scope for any defense and hunting rifle including little Black rifle to be used up to 600 yards where speed to target is more important than extreme long-range precision. Vortex Striker Eagle is designed to be very efficient in an array of different applications that require speed targeting with both eyes open at 1x power or that need for long range target acquisition with precision at 6x magnification.
This particular model riflescope has a single-piece 30-millimeter tube body with the O-ring seals, which maximizes the alignment thereby making the product weatherproof and preventing the penetration of not only moisture but also debris and dust. Also, the scope comes with a Nitrogen gas purging, whose basic function is to keep out any fogging that takes place on the inner side of the lenses over a wide range of temperatures. Due to overall quality, constructed from an aircraft-grade aluminum block the Vortex scope is capable of withstanding the tremendous amounts of shock, recoil, and impact thus boosting its ability to hold zero as well as the overall durability. Moreover, the Vortex Strike Eagle comes with a highly durable hard-anodized finish that could withstand all kind of harsh external environment. As you may assume, the quality mirrors in slightly larger dimensions and though this scope has the objective lens of only 24mm it alone measures 17.6 ounces and if the 6.7 ounces recommended cantilever mount is added, we are talking of about 24.3 ounces or rather 1.5 pounds. That is actually not as lightweight as other low-powered counterparts are, nor is as handy as the non-magnified Aimpoint Micro red dot. Considering the scope itself is primarily marketed around the 5.56/.223 cartridges, eye relief of 3.5 inches is very generous while its large field of view of 116.5-19.2 foot at 100 yards provides fast target searching and a fast reticle focusing. The Strike Eagle features fully multi-coated lenses that increase the light transmission to the highest possible degree in the scope platform. Although the result is a crisp, clear and bright image, the brightness is not as good as you would expect and particularly is apparent in dimmer lighting conditions.
A huge selling point is Vortex’s own AR-BDC reticle (BDC-Bullet Drop Compensator) that in 1x works a lot like a red dot at close range enabling the shooter to use it with both eyes open like he would a regular red dot scope. The reticle is laser etched onto the glass and placed between two layers of XR fully multi-coated glass lens for ultimate protection from recoil and potential damage. Most of the leading optic producers replaced the standard wire reticle on riflescopes with a glass-etched reticle to ensure maximum durability and reliability, even under heavy and repeated recoil. The illuminated AR-BDC reticle is made in Second Focal Plane (SFP), the most common design that hunters and shooters are familiar with since that construction ensures the reticle scale maintains the same ideal size of the object. The reticle sports sub-tensions so the user can estimate distance and the wind drift with ease. Illuminated reticle provides reliable target detection in low lighting conditions using a total of eleven power options supplied from a single CR 2032 battery for about 150 hours of maximum intensity performance. A smart addition to that feature is a spare battery compartment positioned under the scope’s windage turret cap.
The Vortex Strike Eagle1-6×24 is a highly versatile optic at an affordable price, being able to offer both the short-range as well as the long-range fast and accurate target acquisition with the crisp picture overall zoom area. One of the main advantages of Vortex scopes is a solid construction that features maximum performance on the field for long-lasting durability. There are known examples of some competitors using the same Vortex riflescope through the 5-year period. For your information, usage of scope within one year in the competition is like 15-year of hunting use. Undoubtedly, Vortex optics gets close to military grade scopes that come with the same specifications but known to cost much more, up to 3-5 times more. In recent years with the rapid growth of wild hogs, even the hunting community is looking for low-powered scopes that can be used on wild boar driven hunting, i.e. close range moving targets. Certainly, this excellent designed optics will make a great addition to any hunter or sharpshooter's armory.
