I had to do a little bit of maneuvering to get the handguard onto my Ruger AR-556, but it fits well now. I appreciate the slimline design, which is a better fit for my "medium" sized hand compared to some of the other options out there. The M-Lok slots provide multiple points for attaching a sling, light, or other accessories. I also added the Magpul QD sling mount, which allows me to use quick-detach ends on my sling.

I bought this Magpul SL handguard as a replacement for my regular moe handguard that I had on my le6920. I noticed that I preferred to grip close to the front sight post and barrel. Often, even with shooting gloves, I would burn my fingers accidentally from the hot barrel and front sight post. I liked the construction of my moe, but I wanted something a little slimmer and protected my hands farther up. The only thing I had to remove was the front sling mount. I already had been running a single point sling on the end of my receiver, so this was no issue. It took 15 seconds with a punch, and it came right of. The handguard may be a little tougher to fit than a regular moe, but not that much. It seems to have less wiggle than my moe and a lighter feel to it. I run it on my rifle with the other regular moe furniture and a micro red dot. I have an afg2 put on it right now, and I love the whole set up. Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy, and it keeps my hands from being burned. Like other Magpul products, it's an excellent buy for the money.

The slimline model of the moe is exactly what it says it is. It is a Streamlined, slightly thinner/longer version of the Magpul flagship moe line. This was designed for the ever-growing grip forward squared shooting stance that le first then three gunners second have made popular. In times past, it has been thought that you should present the smallest target possible, thus having a wide stance. Things are a little different now with the advancement of higher-performing bullet countering plates/carriers. Now they want you to present the plate forward shooting position in le, and the three gunners picked this shooting style up and ran with it, creating a new genre of shooting equipment designed to enhance this new way to shoot. You still are a smaller target because you are hunkered down on the rifle and low, but it takes away from the weak point in the plate carrier where there is no protection in the rib areas, formally this was presented at target thinking they would have a harder time hitting you if inside stance. Modern-day optics have passed this way of thinking up as most are using precision optics these days. But I digress. Now comes the thinner profile lighter stocks and different angled grips(k2)moe. I personally think the k2 is a little uncomfortable for my shooting style but love the slimline buttstock and foregrip. I think they are just the right combination in weight and functionality for how I shoot. Install: Yes, you will have to use a 1/16 pin punch to remove the front sling attachment. 2 taps and mine was out...no big whoop. Guys who are drilling have no gunsmithing experience, in my opinion. No offense to anyone meant here, but seriously, all you need is a $3 pin punch. Do not drill!!! The handguard has a tight fit. It is designed this way because if one person said it had any kind of wobble, it would be blacklisted forever so tight is good. This means a little more work on the install. If you want a really good easy way to put them in check out mrgunsngear on youtube and reference sl moe install. I used this video and was fast easy, with no issues at all whatsoever on install. I highly recommend you check it out before unboxing. Cons: This takes Magpul M-Lok only for attachments. Magpul M-Lok is a new product line. So it will be less accessible at first and more expensive. Just the way it is. But others are closing in and offering compatible products as an alternative to keymod. I don't really like keymod, so this works great for me. Looks strange and not as secure as it could be...just my opinion your mileage may vary? The mlok attachments are easy to install and likewise uninstall once you figure out how the system works. One thing I will say is to not over-torque the screws. The screws are solid, but just remember that the only thing you are pulling against and mounting to is plastic. He-man may break it if he is not conscious of this fact. Also, mrgunsngear has a great video on mlok so check it out if you want to be an expert before you purchase. Lol. I jest, but I do myself in product research all the time; it is critical in saving you time/money!!! Overall: Another great product from Magpul. I think that people are put off by this because, in the past, Magpul has made their handguards super easy install without the use of gunsmithing knowledge or tools, and this is the first one where you have to take one little component off to put this one. I view this as a good thing to get people out of their comfort zone to try simple things like a sling attachment removal. Why? One-improve their confidence in simple gunsmithing and -two familiarize themselves with the inner workings of their equipment. So good job Magpul...love the product...love the colors...love that MSP supplied it to me at a reasonable price with excellent customer service and shipping options!!! I hope this has helped someone that may be on the fence. I would give it more stars if I could!!!

I Put the Magpul SL Handguard on my S&W M&P 15 Sport II after a LOT of aggravation. Finally had the thought to remove the sling swivel, and it popped on with no trouble. An improvement over the stock handguard.

My regular Moe Magpul handguard was replaced with the moe sl carbine handguard, and I Absolutely Love it. It fits like a glove and really looks good as well feels good in the hand, slimmer, and easier to control the weapon seem like because you can get a better grip on the handguard. This is a great improvement all the way around. I'm glad I decided to buy this one. I might buy one for my other one-I like it that well!

I love the Magpul moe SL handguard. It was an upgrade on the stock one my M&P 15 came with in every way. The fit is tight and has absolutely no wiggle. The M-Lok system is efficient, and there are plenty of slots on this item. The heat shield works wonders, and the shape of the guard allows for an amazing grip on every shot. On top of all that, it looks great and sleek. Heads up, this can be installed by only one person, but its easier with two. Also, you will have to remove the sling mount if you have one. That being said, I highly recommend this to everyone!

I used this Magpul MOE SL Handguard to substitute the original handguard on a Ruger AR-556. It installed easy, especially with the design Ruger uses for the Delta Ring that secures the handguard. Just turn the delta ring to loosen it, lift out the two stock handguard halves and install this Magpul (Be sure to read the directions and install the two pieces in the right order). I like the profile of this handguard. It is more rectangular than round. The overall circumference of the handguard is actually a bit greater than for the round factory style, but it is thinner from side to side. The top to bottom dimension is what is larger. This slimness feels good in the hand. It is tight once installed properly. Of course then it provides you with the platform to install whatever things work for you. In my case it now wears a Streamlight TLR-1 HL light mounted at 1 o'clock with a remote switch from the long gun kit mounted on the handgaurd on the left side at 9 o'clock as far forward as possible. The switch can be activated while gripping the handguard in a nornal shooting grip. This magpul handguard is a nice modification for the AR platform and the cost is right.

The hand-guard fit and look is perfect. It's a more comfortable fit than the previous MOE Carbine size hand-guard. I'm running an Osprey piston system and the heat-shield clears the piston with no problems.
