Brass Stacker Model SAXDM4.5/5.25B Tungsten Carbide Core Recoil Guide Rod

Performance Recoil Guide Rod with a Tungsten Carbide Core, High Strength Alloy Steel Casing and Black Oxide Finish for the Springfield Armory XD(M) 4.5″ and XD(M) 5.25″ Series (9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP)

Lifetime Warranty; Made in USA!

(Will NOT work with the “XD” Series!)

Contains: 1) Guide rod (No spring included, for use with your own OEM/Factory Spring)

Benefits:
The tough head and body of the Casing absorbs the mechanical loads during normal firing, not the Core. This High Strength Steel Casing is not brittle and will not chip, crack, or break under normal operation. The exterior surface is machined to fine surface finish providing smooth operation against the recoil spring. The Core’s density provides an increased Non-Reciprocating Mass that helps to reduce muzzle flip and allows for faster target acquisition of follow-up shots.

Weight:
The complete unit weighs 3.0 oz, a 400% increase from OEM Guide Rod weight of approximately .74 oz.

Construction:
The Casing and Core have an Interference Fit and are permanently bonded together.

Core:
The Core is made from Ultra Micro Grain TUNGSTEN CARBIDE (WC) with 10% COBALT (Co) and has the following properties:
Density: 14.45 g/cm
Ultimate Tensile Strength: 450,000 psi
Transverse Rupture Strength: 4.0 Gpa
Fracture Toughness: 8.7 MPa m
Young’s Modulus: 580 GPa
Hardness: 91.8 Ra
Grain Size: .6 micron

Casing:
Although the Casing is dimensionally identical to the OEM Guide Rod, it is in fact quite different. The Casing is made from E.T.D. 150 , a High Strength Alloy Steel Modified from Medium Carbon AISI 4100 Series Alloy Steel. The High Strength is developed by Elevated Temperature Drawing below the critical temperature range and has the following properties:

Carbon: .40 min
Manganese: .70-1.10
Silicon: .15-.35
Chromium: .80-.12
Molybdenum: .15-.25
Ultimate Tensile Strength: 150,000 psi
Yield Strength: 130,000 psi
Hardness: 32 Rc Min

Heat Treat:
The Casing surface is hardened to resist spring wear and corrosion using NITRO-WEAR , a Patented, Proprietary process for Ferritic Nitro-Carburizing in a fluid bed furnace. This produces a tough, file-hard (55-60 Rc), wear and corrosion resistant surface .003-.005” thick. A 24 hour, 15% salt bath test yields no corrosion.

Finishing:
The Casings are Garnet tumbled and Black Oxide plated to achieve a superior finish.
